Abuja terror suspect Charles Okah is not dead, NPS says
Charles Okah is the alleged mastermind of the 2010 Independence Day bombing in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
Okah is being tried for alleged terrorism among other charges. He appeared in court on Tuesday and allegedly tried to commit suicide.
Okah allegedly said he was fed up with the endless trial which has been on for at least four years now.
The court is located on the third floor of a five storey building. Okah tried to jump after the hearing, reports say. Security officials were said to have restrained from taking his own life.
Hours after he was reportedly transported back to jail, reports said he was dead.
Reports claim the terror suspect killed himself inside Kuje Prison in Abuja where he is being held.
The Nigeria Prisons Service, on Wednesday, said the reports are false.
NPS spokesman, Francis Enobore, told The Nation: “Charles Okah is not dead. The information you received was false and please disregard it.”
