Six people were killed in Tudun-Wada village, Abuja, last Tuesday after an electricity transformer exploded.

The transformer then burned for about 10 minutes sending high voltage into homes in the area, witnesses say.

A pregnant woman was among those killed during the power surge. No less than 40 persons were injured. Many among the injured say they spent thousands of naira on medical bills.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) said it will investigate the tragic incident.

NERC Acting Director General Mr Anthony Akah said the body would investigate the tragic incident.
