8 years after killing a dozen in Independence Day bombing, Charles Okah sentenced to life imprisonment
Eight years after he masterminded the Independence Day bombing that led to the death of a dozen persons, Charles Okah has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
A Federal High Court in Abuja pronounced judgement on Charles Wednesday evening.
He was sentenced alongside Obi Nwabueze, his co-accused for the crime.
The bombing occurred at Eagle Square, Abuja during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
Two car bombings were carried out against crowds celebrating the fiftieth anniversary (golden jubilee) of Nigeria’s independence in the capital city of Abuja on the morning of October 1, 2010.
The attacks left 12 dead and 17 injured.
The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) claimed responsibility.
Charles’ elder brother, Henry had been sentenced for a similar crime in South Africa, where he was based.
