7 roads that require urgent attention from Lagos state government
For several months, Lagos residents have been continuously subjected to frustrating and unproductive hours in traffic due to a plethora of bad roads, and despite promises from the state government to fix all the roads in deplorable conditions, the problems seem to be unabating.
Though Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s government has embarked on palliative work on several roads in the state, there are many roads screaming for attention by the road construction teams. These are the top seven roads the government needs to pay attention to and conclude work on them as soon as possible before the rains begin again:
1. Agric-Isawo Road
Before the rains stopped, residents in Ikorodu were subjected to untold hardship on the Agric – Isawo road network in the area. The hardship persists as the residents await the completion of the extremely deplorable road.
2. Moshalasi roundabout-Iyana Ipaja Road
It is quite strange that rehabilitation works have been carried out on this axis many times in the past year but the road continues to cause headaches for commuters and residents alike. The few kilometres of the deplorable road causes several hours of traffic jam during the entire day.
3. Ojo-Iyana Iba Road
Much of the conversations last year around terrible roads in Lagos involved this road. Residents in Ojo, Okokomaiko, Badagry etc are made to endure daily frustration moving to and fro their places of work/business.
4. Ikotun-Ijegun road
Another terrible area that needs urgent attention from the state government. Residents have been crying for the Lagos State Public Works to look their way since palliative works began in the state but nothing of note has been done.
5. Ikeja Rail Line – Awolowo Way
This road network frustrates tens of thousands of commuters attempting to get onto the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway daily, with commuters spending hours on the stretch of the road that is only a few kilometres long. The ongoing construction of the rail line has added to the problem.
6. Ashipa Road, Ayobo
Just as the rains subsided, residents in the area were provided a glimmer of hope as the Lagos State Public Works looked to have finally answered their call. That was not to be, however, as the tractors were moved away a few days after and have not returned since. The stretch of road which links the Igando-Iyana Iba leaves residents frustrated as they go about their business.
7. Diya – Ajayi Aina Road, Gbagada
Residents in this area have been crying out for the attention of Lagos Public Works as the road is nothing to write about. The road causes needless hours of traffic for thousands of residents in the axis.
These are only a few of the roads that require the state government’s urgent attention and residents will hope that their areas of concern are immediately attended to.
