40 men, 40 women to engage in mass wedding in Jigawa
Several men and women, numbering about 80, will participate in a mass wedding sponsored by the Jigawa State government.
In preparation for the event, the prospective grooms and brides have registered at the Gwaram Local Government Area of the state.
Nasiru Yusif, the Local Government’s Information Officer, revealed this development to NAN in Dutse on Friday.
According to Yusif, the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee for the wedding in the area, Abdullahi Basirka, announced the number of participants to be 40 men and 40 women at a stakeholder meeting held in Gwaram on Thursday.
He added that the committee would visit the District Head of the area to solicit his support in educating people on the importance of the programme.
According to him, the Council Chairman, Ilu Shuwarin, has pledged the council’s support towards successful hosting of the mass wedding.
The mass wedding initiative, according to the government, is to check social vices among the people of the state.
