25-year-old student shot dead by suspected cultists
A 25-year-old student of University of Abuja, Onyekachi Azubuko was reportedly shot dead on Tuesday afternoon by suspected cultists behind his parent’s residence in Abuja.
Onyekachi, according to Northern City News, was shot dead after he stepped out of the house to meet some friends around Gado Nasko Way, Kubwa, a satellite town in the Federal Capital Territory.
The assailants, believed to be cultists, were reported to have shot sporadically, an incident which immediately caused panic among residents in the area.
The deceased’s brother, Joel raced to the scene to identify Onyekachi’s lifeless body, before it was taken to the Kubwa General Hospital by the police.
Joel then informed Azubuko, their father, who had been away at work about Onyekachi’s death.
Azubuko described Onyekachi as a brilliant student and a good athlete and mentioned that he had warned him against relationship with persons of suspicious character.
“He was a son dear to my heart, a good sportsman and a brilliant student. But I observed that he had been derailing, he has been keeping company with some suspicious characters and I asked him about his friends, but he denied being a member of a cult group,” the aggrieved father said to Northern City News.
“We are a strong Christian family and we don’t condone acts of indiscipline. I warned him several times about the company he was keeping.”
Burial arrangements for the deceased have been put in place.
