2019 Elections: INEC removes 299 aliens from voters’ register
A total of 299 voters have been removed from the voters’ register, INEC chairman, Alhaji Mahmood Yakubu has confirmed.
Yakubu revealed that the 299 alien voters were discovered to have registered on false pretence.
He said the electoral commission removed the voters on the basis of the information received from the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
Yakubu said that the development will guarantee citizens’ rights to a fair electoral process.
He said that INEC is working hard to address all the challenges currently facing the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR).
He also assured all registered voters and those intending to register, of getting their Permanent Voters’ Card (PVC) before the 2019 elections.
Yakubu noted that the consultative meeting came at exactly 350 days to the commencement of the 2019 general elections.
