December 23, 2020
Chief James Bola Ige, a former Minister of Justice of the federation, was assassinated 19 years ago today.
Ige was shot dead at his Ibadan home on December 23, 2001. The Senior Advocate of Nigeria was believed to be a victim of a political crisis involving the Alliance for Democracy party in Osun State.
Ige was widely respected as one of South Western States’ progressive leaders.
He also served as Commissioner for Agriculture, Governor of Oyo, and Minister of Power and Steel.
His murder, despite massive coverage, remains unsolved. The suspects arrested in connection with the assassination walked free.
The judiciary was widely blamed for the shoddy way it handled the case.
