Boy, 19, arraigned for obtaining abortion drugs for 14-year-old girlfriend
Olamilekan Yusuf, a 19-year-old boy, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obtaining abortion drugs for his 14-year-old girlfriend.
Yusuf, who lives on Turner Eradiri Street, in Ajegunle area of Lagos state is facing one count charge of procurement of abortion drugs.
According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Olusegun Kosoye, the accused who was having a relationship with the 14-year-old girl, committed the offence on October 27 at his residence after his girlfriend took in .
Kosoye said the accused and his lover were neighbours and he had slept with her on several occasions.
“When the accused discovered that his girl friend was pregnant, he convinced her to take abortion drugs, since they were not both ready to cater for a child now,” he said.
“The young girl started having severe stomach pains after taking the abortion drugs and she was also bleeding.
“The parents of the 14-year-old girl discovered that their daughter was acting strange and was also in so much pain, they decided to take her to the hospital for medical attention.
“The girl later confessed to her parents that Yusuf, who was responsible for the pregnancy, gave her drugs to terminate it.
“The case was reported to the police and the accused was immediately arrested,” Kosoye told the court, adding that the offence contradicted provisions of Section 145 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Yusuf however pleaded not guilty to the charge and the Magistrate, Mr M.A Etti granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
Etti adjourned the case till January 12, 2017.
