17 people killed as trailer, bus crash on Lagos-Ibadan expressway

Both vehicles were headed towards Lagos when the crash occurred, Sunday morning.

A total of 17 people, all male, were reported dead while 74 adults were injured in the accident which occurred at about 09:15am.

The accident occurred at Sepo area of the highway and has been attributed to impatience and over speeding on the part of the drivers.

The Oyo State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Yusuf Salami, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that both drivers were struggling for the right of way when the accident happened.

“The bus was loaded with passengers and goods but the casualty figure rose because the other vehicle was travelling to Lagos with huge number of illegal passengers,’’ he said.

The corpses have been deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital morgue in Ibadan, while the injured were taken to the University College Hospital, Ibadan Central Hospital and Kejide Hospital..
