13 girls, aged 12 and below, die in Jigawa boat mishap

The girls were crossing a river between two villages in two boats when the unfortunate accident occurred.
The boat capsized leaving up to 13 young girls dead.
The Gilbi river they were trying to cross is between Tsuburi Darai and Gilma villages, both of which are about 50 kilometers away from Dutse, the state capital.
Confirming the incident, an official of the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, said:
“Young girls under nine to 12 years old were loaded in two boats on their way from Tsuburi Darai village to cross the river to Gilam village to attend a wedding ceremony when the tragedy occurred.”
He added that the rescue team is still searching for the dead bodies.
The police spokesperson however said seven died on the spot..
