“You’re not serious about revamping agriculture” – blogger tells Buhari

Blogger Mike Ile has said the Nigerian government doesn’t seem serious enough about its “plans” to revive agriculture.

“All this talk about agriculture, I hope you guys actually know what agriculture means?” Ile asked his Facebook followers on Tuesday.

“Because before you say a Nigerian is lazy, you also must research the topic you bring up or run the risk of mocking yourself.

“For starters, commercial agriculture is not for poor citizens. No matter how you try to coat it. I also hope you know that the machinery for agriculture are also subject to forex rates? You cannot wish it away. Do we produce tractors and harvesters in Nigeria?

“Adekunle Shotubo gave me a clue as to what it cost the guy at VICAMPRO to perform the enviable feats they have taken potato farming to. Trust me, even those of you bragging and cursing us cannot do it. Forget. The money no be here.

“We cannot talk about farming, especially in the north, and pretend like the Fulani herdsmen do not exist. How would you like to sink millions into a farm and have it all gone in a wink? Has that issue been resolved?

“If you try to bypass these issues, then you are not talking about agriculture as an alternative source of revenue. You must be talking about your backyard garden.

“I have always said it, government’s duty is to provide the necessary platforms. The citizens will thrive. Yes there are lazy people but not everybody is poor because of laziness, just as not every rich person has money because they have brains. Some are raw thieves and some are just privileged. So stop the stereotypes.

“Government is NOT serious about agriculture yet. When they become serious, it will not need an argument to prove.

“It will be obvious,” Ile wrote.
