World Drug Day: Japhet Omojuwa to moderate MTN ‘Drug Convos’ on Friday

Popular political commentator and social media expert, Japhet Omojuwa will moderate the ‘Drug Convos’, an online event to discuss drug abuse on Friday,

The event, organised by MTN Nigeria in partnership with The Netng, Business Day newspaper, music channel MTV Base and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), is in commemoration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking also known as ‘World Drug Day’, observed annually on June 26 since 1989.

With the prevalence of drug and substance abuse among Nigerian youths, MTN launched the Anti Substance Abuse Programme (ASAP) in December 2018 as a multi-stakeholder intervention aimed at creating awareness about drug and substance abuse, and discouraging first time users from taking the first step to possible addiction.

“We need to have these conversations. And you should be part of these networks of change makers, else you get left behind,” Omojuwa wrote on his Twitter page while speaking on the event.

At the event on Friday, a six-member panel which include – the Executive Secretary, MTN Foundation, Odunayo Sanya; Country Manager, ViacomCBS Networks Africa, Bada Akintunde-Johnson; Country Representative of UNODC, Oliver Stolpe; Director General of Christ Against Drug Abuse Ministry (CADAM) Dr. Adedokun Adedeji, Nollywood actors Dakore Egbuson and Ini Edo will be speaking on “Better Knowledge and Better Care: An Ally Against Drug Abuse.”

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare, Chairman of the MTN Foundation, Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi, and a Senior Lecturer and Consultant Psychiatrist at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Dr Yewande Oshodi are special guests.
