Workers’ Day: Implement new minimum wage – NLC warns FG

The Nigeria Labour Congress has warned the Federal Government to make sure it implements the new national minimum wage for workers as soon as possible.

The union expects that a new agreement will take effect from August 2018.

Nigeria’s minimum wage was last reviewed to a paltry N18,000 (less than $50) seven years ago.

NLC president, Ayuba Wabba said on Monday in Abuja that the “organised labour will ensure that the timeline set by the Tripartite Committee on the Implementation of the National Minimum Wage is not altered.”

“Workers, who create wealth, must also be well taken care of as we are not unmindful of the situation of the Nigerian workers, particularly with the increasing inflation in the land.,”: Wabba said.
