“We will NOT stop 2face, Nigerians from protesting” – Presidency

The federal government will make no move to stop music icon 2face Idibia and Nigerians from protesting against bad leadership in the country, a presidential media aide has said.

Laolu Akande, who is spokesperson to Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, said Nigerians have the right to protest.

“Presidency is not going to stop people from expressing their fundamental human rights,” he said, Friday, on Channels TV.

“People have the right to protest. Whoever they want to support or oppose is their right.

“Government is not in the business of countering any protest,” he said.

Akande’s comments ran against what other presidential media aides have echoed concerning the planned February 6 protest.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s media aide Femi Adesina had called intending protesters “jealous”.

Adesina said his boss’ critics were still trapped in election mode and still nurtured the pain of the defeat Buhari inflicted on their preferred candidate.

Another Presidency media aide Lauretta Onochie also condemned the planned mass action. She was put in her proper place by Nigerians who shared images of her protesting against Buhari’s predecessor Goodluck Jonathan.

The 2face-led protest will be staged on February 6, the same day Buhari, who’s vacationing in London, resumes presidential duties.

Lagos police commissioner attracted public anger after saying he would block the protest from holding in the state.
