WATCH: My only regret serving as minister under Obasanjo – Oby Ezekwesili
Oby Ezekwesili spoke exclusively with Neusroom on empowerment of the girl child and her regrets as minister under former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The 2019 presidential candidate said the only regret she had about her time as Minister of Education under Obasanjo was the discontinuation of some of her policies.
She also debunked claims that she supported President Buhari in the lead up to the 2015 election.
“Whether you say it partially or fully, no such thing happened,” she said of her perceived backing of Buhari before the general poll over three years ago.
“I actually find it unfair for people to make the demand that we made for the Chibok girls as being the equivalence of an endorsement. That’s wrong,” she added.
Ezekwesili said as a woman, she had experienced situations where she was told she would never become president as no one would vote a female president in Nigeria
“One of the things that my dad did very well for me, and I say it to most of the men, well to all the men that think that I am their mentor, I say to them that it’s the father that can best validate a daughter.
“Once my father validated me, nobody on earth can invalidate me. It doesn’t matter who you think you are. You can’t invalidate me,” she said.
She added that “the last thing that should happen is that every man that sees a woman should suddenly say, I am your superior because you’re a woman.”
