WAEC Releases 2024 Results, Withholds Over 200,000 Results
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.

The examination board made the announcement via a post on X, stating, “The West African Examinations Council is pleased to inform all candidates who participated in the WASSCE for school candidates, 2024, that the results have been officially released today.”

The 2024 WASSCE was conducted over seven weeks and six days, from April 30 to June 24, and saw a total of 1,814,736 candidates register from 25,126 secondary schools across Nigeria. Of these, 1,805,216 candidates actually took the exam.
WAEC revealed that 1,685,889 candidates—93.39% of those who sat for the exam—have had all their papers processed and results released. However, 119,327 candidates (6.61%) are still awaiting results for some subjects.
WAEC Withholds 215,267 WAEC Results Over Malpractice Issues
Amos Josiah Dangut, head of WAEC Nigeria, announced that results for 215,267 candidates (11.92% of the total) are being withheld due to various reported cases of examination malpractice. This marks a 4.37% decrease from the 16.29% of results withheld in the 2023 WASSCE.
It was also reported that 73.79% of the 2024 candidates achieved credit or above in at least five subjects, including English Language and/or Mathematics. This translates to 1,332,089 successful candidates out of the total number.
The 2024 WASSCE was conducted across four countries: Nigeria, The Gambia, Sierra Leone, and Liberia.
