Vietnam Eyes Investment in Abia’s Textile, Agriculture, and Manufacturing Sectors
The Socialist Republic of Vietnam has expressed readiness to collaborate with Abia State in key sectors such as agriculture, textiles, and manufacturing.
This commitment was made by the Vietnamese Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Mr. Bui Quoc Hung, during his engagement with the business communities in Umuahia and Aba, under the Abia State Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture.
Speaking at the meetings, Ambassador Hung highlighted the economic similarities between Vietnam and Nigeria, noting that both nations share strong potential in agriculture and industrial production.
“We have discussed some strong development areas like agriculture, manufacturing, textiles and garments, seafood, and electronics. Of course, we focused much on agriculture, textiles, and food production in Nigeria,” he stated.

The envoy further emphasized Vietnam’s interest in supporting Abia businesses to enhance productivity, quality, and value chains in these sectors.
“We think that we can work together in order to increase productivity, quality, quantity, and the value chains,” Ambassador Hung added.
He also extended an invitation to the Abia business community to explore trade opportunities in Vietnam, particularly by attending business expos and exhibitions that could foster direct partnerships.
On the part of the state government, the Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Mr. Kingsley Nwokocha, welcomed the collaboration, describing it as a promising step toward economic growth.

Similarly, the Commissioner for Industry and SMEs, Mr. Mike Akpara, urged Vietnam to attract investors to revive the moribund Aba Textile Mill and take advantage of Abia’s well-established textile market, which serves Nigeria and the West African sub-region.
In response, leaders of the Umuahia and Aba Chambers of Commerce expressed optimism about the partnership, stating that they are focused on positioning Abia for global investment opportunities.
The Vietnamese delegation also toured several industrial sites in Abia, including Golden Guinea Brewery in Umuahia, Saclux Paint Industry, a cashew plantation in Umunneochi, the defunct Aba Textile Mill, and the bustling Ekeoha Textile Market clusters.

This visit marks a significant step in fostering bilateral trade relations between Vietnam and Abia State, with hopes that the partnership will drive industrial revitalization and economic expansion in the coming years.
