Unizik students protest, blame death of final year student on university’s medical centre

Protesting students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra besieged the streets on Monday over the death of a final year student of microbiology, Francis Madubuobi.

Francis slumped while playing basketball on Saturday, and reportedly died when there was no proper treated administered to him at the school clinic.

The students blame the school management for a sub par clinic, despite paying exorbitant sums to cover for their medical fees.

They also claimed that the medical personnel at the university’s medical centre did not do enough to save the life of Francis when he was taken there.

The Director of Information of the university, Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, however, said the deceased was brought in “without a pulse.”

Ojukwu said Francis was taken to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, Amaku, where he was confirmed dead.

The students vowed to continue the protest until the management of the university address the situation and make commitment to the issue.
