Nigerians to Receive UK eVisas for Study and Work Applications from July
The United Kingdom has officially launched electronic visas (eVisas) for Nigerian applicants. As of July 15, most Nigerians applying for UK study or work visas will no longer receive traditional visa stickers in their passports. Instead, they will be issued secure and verifiable digital eVisas.
This digital rollout is part of the UK Home Office’s global initiative to transition to a fully digital border and seamless immigration system. The transition aims to enhance security, improve efficiency, and simplify the travel experience for eligible Nigerians.
UK Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Gill Atkinson Lever, described the change as a “major milestone” in UK-Nigeria relations and visa innovation. In a video announcement, she explained that eVisas will now serve as official proof of a person’s immigration status and rights in the UK, accessible online at any time.
“This is a huge step forward for Nigerian applicants and reflects the strength of our people-to-people ties,” Lever stated.
Applicants can now view and manage their eVisa status via the UKVI digital portal, eliminating the need for physical passport submission in many cases.
