Trump Calls for Fed Governor Lisa Cook’s Resignation Amid Mortgage Fraud Allegations
U.S President Donald Trump on Wednesday publicly demanded the resignation of Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, following new allegations of mortgage fraud tied to her real estate dealings.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Cook must resign, now!!!”, the latest in a series of attacks aimed at reshaping the leadership of the U.S. central bank ahead of the 2026 elections.
The controversy centers around claims made earlier in the day by Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Director Bill Pulte, who accused Cook of misrepresenting two different properties as her primary residence to secure mortgages. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Pulte alleged that Cook listed a condo in Atlanta as her primary residence while also claiming her Michigan home had the same status, actions that could potentially violate mortgage laws.
Pulte said the FHFA had obtained documents supporting the claims, referencing two loans taken out in June and July of 2021. He also shared part of a letter he sent to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, urging the Department of Justice to investigate Cook.
“She needs to quit because what she did is grounds for firing,” Pulte wrote.
As of Wednesday evening, neither Cook nor the Federal Reserve had issued a public response to the accusations.
The unfolding drama marks yet another flashpoint in Trump’s long-running battle with the Federal Reserve, which he has frequently criticized for its interest rate policies. He has also repeatedly attacked Fed Chair Jerome Powell, even suggesting he would remove him if given another term in office.
Earlier this month, Trump made headlines by appointing Stephen Miran, chair of the Council of Economic Advisers, to fill a vacant seat on the Fed’s Board of Governors, signaling his continued push to influence monetary policy.
