Tragedy hits Ibadan as building collapse kills 10, injures 7
Tragedy struck in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, as 10 people lost their lives in a devastating building collapse while seven others sustained various degrees of injuries.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, October 31, at Jegede Olunloyo, Ona Ara LGA.
Disclosing the tragic incident in a statement, the Oyo State Fire Service Agency, said the seven injured victims were rescued from the rubble, adding that the rescue operation was still ongoing.
“The Oyo State Fire Services Agency received a distressed call at around 2 am this morning at Jegede Olunloyo area, Ibadan, of which 10 persons have been recovered from the debris of the collapsed building, while seven persons were rescued alive,” the statement reads.
The building collapse, which sent shock waves through the community, prompted a swift emergency response as first responders and authorities worked throughout the night to retrieve trapped victims.
The injured victims were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention, though details on their conditions remain unknown as of press time.

Building collapse scourge raises concerns
The incident is the latest in a series of building collapses across the country. Last weekend, seven scavengers lost their lives after a building collapsed in the Sabon Lugbe area of Abuja.
Earlier in the year, an explosion occurred in the Bodija area of Ibadan, reducing many buildings to rubble while two people died and 77 others were injured.
In June 2023, a two-storey building collapsed in the Inalende area of Ibadan following a downpour.
