TRAGEDY: 3 killed as truck crushes bus in Badagry, Lagos
Three Nigerians were killed on Wednesday morning after a container truck reportedly rammed into a commercial bus in Lagos.
Eyewitnesses said the bus was parked at Alakija bus stop along Badagry expressway when the 40 feet container-carrying truck rammed into it.
The collision caused the container atop the truck to fall on the commercial bus killing three people instantly. It is unclear if the people killed were among the five sitting in the passenger bus when the accident occurred.
Two other people trapped under the mess were rescued and taken to hospital by emergency workers.
Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said recovery operations were still ongoing at the scene.
Reports say the death toll may rise as there were other people trapped under the fallen container truck.
The accident comes on a day Nigerian Muslims are celebrating Eid al-Fitr to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
