Tinubu Mourns Death of Governor Makinde’s Elder Brother, Sunday Makinde
Engr. Sunday Makinde, elder brother of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025, at the age of 65. The news of his death was confirmed by Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, who stated: “With a heavy heart, I announce the passage of my older brother, Engr. Sunday Makinde, to eternal glory today, Friday 24th of January 2025.”
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu extended condolences to the governor and his family, praising the late Sunday Makinde’s legacy. In a heartfelt letter addressed to Governor Makinde, Tinubu wrote:
“The loss of a loved one, especially a cherished elder brother, is a profound sorrow… We pray for strength and comfort as you navigate this irreplaceable loss.” He emphasized the importance of family and unity, adding: “May these values strengthen you and your loved ones in this time of grief.”

The President also assured the governor of his support, stating: “You can count on my unwavering support and assistance during this difficult time.”
Engr. Sunday Makinde, known for his contributions to engineering and community development, died in the early hours of Friday at approximately 3:20 a.m. Tributes have poured in from across Nigeria, highlighting his impact on Oyo State and beyond.
