The Door is Still Open for Kwankwaso to Return to APC – Ganduje

Abdullahi Ganduje, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has extended a public invitation to his longtime rival, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to return to the ruling party.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday at the APC national headquarters in Abuja, Ganduje said the party is committed to “deepening and widening democracy” in Nigeria and would gladly welcome Kwankwaso back “with outstretched arms.”

Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and presidential candidate under the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), left the APC in 2018 over internal conflicts. However, Ganduje suggested the door remains wide open.

“Kwankwaso is a fish out of water, trying to find its way back into the waters,” Ganduje remarked. “We cannot say we can’t accommodate him, because a friend in need is a friend indeed. We don’t want to leave him completely abandoned.”

Ganduje, who has had a long and complicated political history with Kwankwaso, framed his invitation in familial terms. “When you see your son running to where he would get shelter and you are a big brother in a big home, I think it is morally right to accommodate him.”

The comments come amid a wave of political realignments. Recently, several high-profile defections from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC have signaled a possible shift in political momentum. Among them is Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who made headlines by joining the ruling party.

Further fueling speculation, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf—an NNPP ally—announced on Monday that the party in the state would follow Kwankwaso wherever he chooses to go, suggesting a potential mass defection if the former minister returns to the APC.
