Suspicious! Police arraign only one of two suspects who allegedly stabbed Taxify driver to death in Lagos

Lucky Friday was brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Monday for allegedly robbing a Taxify driver of his Toyota Corolla car after stabbing him in the stomach.

Friday, 24, is facing two counts of conspiracy and armed robbery. He allegedly committed the offences with others still at large on March 16 at Ekingbon Estate in Lekki area of Lagos.

The police prosecutor told the court that Friday allegedly stabbed Mr. Godfrey Ovie in the stomach with a dagger and robbed him of a Toyota Corolla car with registration number FST 663 EZ. The car, valued at N1.4m, is said to be a property of the complainant, Alexander Abiola.

The prosecutor said Friday was also armed with other dangerous weapons.

“The complainant was attacked while driving the accused and his accomplices who had earlier boarded his car.

“Suddenly, the accused brought out a dagger and stabbed the complainant on the stomach and thereafter robbed him of the car.

“He was arrested by some policemen from Ajah Police Division while trying to escape, but his accomplices fled the scene in an unmarked motorcycle,” Emuerhi said.

Friday, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Chief Magistrate Olufunke Sule-Amzat remanded the accused in prison and directed that the case file should be sent to the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.

Sule-Amzat adjourned the case until October 22.

However, Newsroom can reliably confirm that when Friday was arrested months ago, a certain 27-year-old Simon Tyozemda, from Benue State, was arrested as his accomplice. But the court has said that only Friday was available for trial and others were on the run.

The account of the police prosecutor to the court is also different from the report by the police when the suspects were arrested at the time. Has Simon been discharged or freed by the police?
