Super Story: Nigerian “nobody” turns African millionaire after spending 5 years in jail
Higher education and tech investor Gossy Ukanwoke tells the beautiful story.
“It started a number of years ago. About 15 years ago. He went to Italy as an illegal immigrant. Then found his way to Switzerland and was involved in street trading, etc to survive and send money home.
“One day, he was arrested while selling stuff on the street by the Swiss police. He was jailed for 5 years.
“While in jail, he took up French Classes, German Classes and of course Painting. He did that for 5 years. He will work on prison grounds and eventually towards the end of his sentence, will do jobs outside the prison and was paid the fee for the jobs.
“When his sentence was over. He had saved up some money. He was deported to Nigeria. He bought some equipment. He registered his company and started painting for people.
“His skill was so superior to that of other painters that he was sort after by everyone. He is that good.
“He is that good.
“He learned in Jail. And he is multilingual, so can work in many African countries. He doesn’t look like the typical painter.
“He lives in Lekki, has a thriving a business that took him about 10 years to build. I forgot to mention, he also earned a Bus. Diploma in Jail.
“I only wonder where he could have been, if he stayed here or didn’t end up in a Swiss jail; if the Swiss jail didn’t have a Vocation Program.”
