State Council approves N27,000 minimum wage for state workers, N30,000 for federal

The new National Minimum Wage will not exceed N27,000, the National Council of State has concluded.

Minister of Labour Dr Chris Ngige said the NCS arrived at the decision following a deliberation in Abuja on Tuesday.

The sum pales in comparison to the N30,000 sum which was earlier agreed.

Ngige, however, clarified that the N27,000 sum would only be applicable to workers in states and private sector only. Federal Government workers will still take home N30,000 as their minimum wage.
