South Sudan has executed two government soldiers who were convicted of murder, the first executions conducted by the country since it seceded from Sudan in 2011.
According to the BBC, the two soldiers were convicted for murdering a couple earlier in the year and were arrested in July.
They were executed by firing squad as residents and relatives of the murdered couple witnessed.
The executions were carried out in Wau town in the north west part of the country.
The two soldiers Surgeon-Major Atian Deng and Lance Corporal Matem Ariic Mayom were convicted by a military court for murdering the couple in a residential area in Wau.
