Somalia bans ‘un-islamic’ Christmas celebrations
The government of Somalia has, again, placed a ban on Christmas celebrations in the country’s capital, Mogadishu.
The country’s director of Justice and Religious Affairs Ministry, Sheikh Mohamed Kheyrow, told a press conference that such events were un-islamic and could provoke an attack by militant Islamist group al-Shabab.
“All security forces are advised to halt or dissolve any gatherings. There should be no activity at all.
“Those celebrations are not in any way related to Islam, its parts of another faith, a custom for another religion which has nothing to do with the Islamic faith,” he said.
The government banned the festivities several times in the past few years, with the security forces closing hotels and restaurants suspected to have been planning to host Christmas festivities..
