Social Media Craze: Onlookers take photos after hit-and-run accident, teenage victim bleeds to death
A victim of a hit-and-run accident in India has bled to death after witnesses chose to film the incident rather than assist him.
Anwar Ali, 17, was laying helpless after his bicycle collided with a bus in the Koppal district of Karnataka state.
He was reportedly left lying on the road for half an hour as onlookers took photos of him.
He could have survived the crash if he had received emergency care earlier, medics say.
“Anwar could have been saved if he had been brought to the hospital immediately. Instead, people stood there capturing the scene on their phones,” his cousin Riyaz is quoted by the Bangalore Mirror as saying.
Ali was only offered water, but nobody offered to take him to a hospital.
Help came a little too late for the teenager, as he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
