Shettima to Lead Key Dialogues on Africa’s Growth at World Economic Forum

Kazeem Shettima

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has arrived in Switzerland to take part in the 2025 annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF), where he will engage in several high-profile discussions and workshops aimed at addressing global challenges and fostering sustainable development.

The WEF gathering, which runs from January 20-24 in Davos, brings together world leaders, top business executives, and development partners to tackle pressing global and economic issues. This year, the conference will focus on themes like sustainability, inclusive growth, and the evolving role of technology in shaping industries.

One of Shettima’s key engagements will be at a workshop organized by the African Development Bank (AfDB), titled “Roadmap to Co-create Investment Opportunities for Africa’s Frontier Markets.” The workshop aims to attract capital flows to Africa, with a particular focus on boosting development and building resilience across the continent.

Additionally, Shettima will participate in the launch of the Humanitarian and Resilience Investing (HRI) Roadmap for Africa. This initiative, a collaboration between AfDB and various partners, is designed to attract investments to Africa’s emerging markets through innovative public-private partnerships. The roadmap seeks to address urgent humanitarian needs while promoting long-term resilience.

The Vice President will also co-chair a forum at the Pischa Congress Centre on “Turning Digital Trade into a Catalyst for Growth in Africa.” This discussion will highlight the potential of the private sector in advancing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Digital Trade Protocol, which was adopted by African Union leaders in January 2024. Shettima’s participation will underscore Nigeria’s role in shaping Africa’s digital economy and promoting regional integration.

Another notable session for Shettima will be his role as a panelist in the “Global Risks 2025” discussion at the Aspen 2 Congress Centre. This conversation will explore key geopolitical, technological, and environmental risks that could impact the global economy in the coming years.

The theme of the 2025 WEF Annual Meeting, “Collaboration for the Intelligent Age,” reflects the urgent need for global cooperation on five interconnected priorities: safeguarding the planet, reimagining growth, investing in people, navigating industries in the intelligent age, and rebuilding trust in institutions. These topics are designed to foster constructive dialogue and drive actionable solutions for a rapidly changing world.
