Seyi Makinde: 2027 Elections Will Be APC vs. Nigerians, Not Just APC vs. PDP
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has declared that the upcoming 2027 elections will be decisive between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Nigerian people. His comments came during the commissioning of the new south-west zonal secretariat of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibadan on Saturday, November 2.

The new secretariat was named in honor of the late Soji Adagunodo, the PDP’s zonal vice chairman in the south-west, marking an important moment for the party in the region.

Makinde urged PDP leaders to overcome external pressures that may hinder the formation of a strong, unified opposition ahead of the elections. He emphasized the need for party solidarity, stating, “Let us unite against influences that seek to divide us.”

The governor asserted that his political path will be determined solely by himself and the Nigerian electorate. “Nobody will set an agenda for me apart from myself,” he declared, addressing speculation surrounding his future political moves. “The next election will be APC versus Nigerians, not just APC versus PDP. We must work to unite our party and allow the people of Nigeria to speak.”

Makinde called for collaboration among PDP members, particularly highlighting the importance of cooperation between him and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke for the betterment of the party in the south-west. He urged party members to focus on strengthening their base and to view the upcoming Ondo governorship election as a crucial test for the political landscape leading into 2027.
“The people spoke in Oyo and Osun states; they will do it again in Nigeria,” Makinde said confidently. “We must not allow external forces to dictate our path. Their interference can only succeed if we allow it.”
