Sexual Harassment: Female Soldier Calls For Case Review Against Senior Officer

A female Nigerian officer recently discharged from the Nigerian Army, Private Ruth Ogunleye, is calling for a review of her sexual harassment case against a senior military officer.

The discharged Officer made her desire for justice known in a video circulating on social media on Wednesday.

Ogunleye had, earlier, accused a senior military officer, Colonel I.B. Abdulkareem, of sexually harassing her.

Following investigations by the Army, the force deemed her to be mentally unbalanced and discharged her from the army.

While apologizing to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, in the said video, Ogunleye stressed that the investigation leading to her dismissal was hugely influenced by high-ranking officers.

She noted that she needed to clear her name while accusing the Force of stigmatizing her.

“I’m very sorry sir. From the depths of my heart, I’m sorry for disrespecting you. Have mercy. This has to do with my reputation, my name.

“It is not good for one to be stigmatized because stigma can lead people to death.

“I will also beg you if the case will be reviewed because I feel someone somewhere tampered with the result. I don’t want to make it look as if I’m assuming,” Ogunleye said.

Ogunleye had, previously, also accused Colonel G.S. Ogor and Brigadier General I.B. Solebo of intimidation and making working conditions unbearable for her.
