In Pictures: Seven Nigerians Deported for Violating ‘Laws’ in Libya
The Libyan government has deported seven Nigerians for what it described as a violation of “laws in force in the Libyan state.”
The deportation, carried out by the Department for Combating Illegal Migration (DCIM) from the Qanfoudah Immigration Detention Centre, involved three Bangladeshis, three Ghanaians, and seven Nigerians.

Following the recent incident involving Nigeria and Libya, where the Super Eagles of Nigeria were stranded at Al Abraq Airport as they left the country for their second-leg AFCON qualifiers and were penalised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Disciplinary Board, there was perceived pressure from the Libyan media for the government to deport what they termed “illegal” Nigerians.
Alleged reports of attacks increased following CAF’s decision but were partly dispelled by the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which reiterated its unwavering commitment to protecting Nigerians in Libya.

The statement read, “DCIM deported 13 migrants (3 Bangladeshis, 3 Ghanaians, and 7 Nigerians) from the Qanfoudah Immigration Detention Centre via Benina International Airport in Benghazi. All individuals were deported for violating laws in force in the Libyan state.”
