Senate approves establishment of tertiary institution in Buhari’s hometown, other towns
The hometown of President Buhari is billed to get a new higher institution as the Senate approves the establishment of tertiary institutions in Daura, Katsina State and nine other towns across the country.
The decision was made in response to a report presented by the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund. The committee chaired by Jibrin Barau made recommendations on the establishment of institutions that will carter to the needs of students from these areas.
This adoption comes on the heels of continuous ASUU strike as the government struggle to pay adequate remunerations to lecturers in the existing tertiary institutions.
Among the institutions approved are Federal Polytechnic Daura in Buhari’s hometown; Federal University of Education, Aguleri; Federal Polytechnic, Kabo; Federal University of Technology, Manchok; National Institute of Construction Technology and Management.
The list also include Federal Polytechnic, Ikom; Federal College of Education(Technical) Arochukwu, Abia State; Federal Polytechnic Kwale, Delta State; Federal College of Education, Usugbenu-Irua, and Federal Polytechnic Langtang, Plateau State.
The Senate believes that establishing these ten new institutions will expand knowledge and open up the education landscape of the country.
