#SaveBabyDubem: Month-old Nigerian baby needs N4 million to fix heart hole

One-month-old Elizabeth Chidubem Kezie’s chances at surviving may soon drastically diminish, except we all do something about it…and on time.

She recently developed breathing problems and was taken to hospital.

Doctors at the National Hospital in Abuja said she’s got a hole in her heart.

Chidubem needs N4 million in the next six weeks.

The report has left her parents devastated. The joy they felt after the June 2 arrival of their first baby now seems mingled with something not so heartening.

Chidubem was born to the family of Harry and Chinyere Adibe who tied the knot a year ago.

“We’re just trying to hold up here, trying hard not to break down,” Chinyere, the baby’s mother, told Newsroom on Tuesday.

It’s not the only thing they’re trying so hard to do. Raising charity funds in Nigeria is as hard as it gets because of fraudsters who make fools of kindhearted people.

The medical report says a corrective surgery within Chidubem’s first four months on earth will help get her heart back to normalcy.

The operation is estimated to cost N4 million because it has to be done outside Nigeria.

“We can’t afford the surgery,” Mrs Adibe said.

"We can't save Chidubem without your help," Chinyere the mother tells Nigerians.

“We need the help of well-meaning Nigerians but we are finding it difficult to convince many people that this is not another scam.”

“The hole in Chidubem’s  heart is real,” she said.

Some progress has been made since the Adibes launched the appeal few weeks back with about N700,000 already poured in for Chidubem’s heart.

That, however, is a long haul from the N4 million needed to get the adoring baby living a healthy life.

The need for help is even urgent as the surgery should be done before October 2 after which Chidubem would have hit the four-month mark.

Doctors said she has a four-month window after which the odds of her benefiting from the heart surgery could reduce.

“We are appealing to Nigerians to kindly support us in cash and in kind to help save our girl,” the mother said.

Monitory donations can be made to her bank account.
