Rivers State: INEC office goes up in flames
There was a “serious” fire incident at the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Bori, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers state on Friday morning.
“I have received the report but don’t have details yet,” state police spokesperson Omoni Nnamdi said confirming the incident.
“I will provide details when I get to the office,” he said.
The fire incident is reportedly “very serious and it consumed the entire building”, reports say.
The development comes nine days to the July 30 Rivers East senatorial district rerun election.
INEC had, due to violence, cancelled the election held on March 11.
The development will make it difficult for INEC to conduct the rerun on July 30..
