Rights Group calls for Ikwechegh’s recall, trial for assaulting Bolt driver
A Human rights advocacy group known as the Youth Rights Campaign (YRC) has asked for a Member of the House of Representatives, Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, to be arrested and prosecuted for assaulting a Bolt driver in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
YRC made its stance known in an X post made by its National Secretary, Francis Nwapa.
Besides severely inflicting injuries on the driver, the lawmaker could be seen, in a viral video, slapping the driver and threatening that he will ensure the driver is never seen again in the country.
“@Alex Ikewechegh Mascot the Abia House of Rep. Member who slapped arrested a bolt driver for allegedly disrespecting him
“These oppressors at all levels across tribe, religion & gender must be tamed. We Demand his arrest, prosecution & recall by constituency. He’s a disgrace & not a resemblance of,” Nwapa wrote on X.
The incident occurred when the e-hailing taxi driver went to the Abuja residence of the lawmaker for delivery.
The Lawmaker was then called to the driver’s car to pick up the item to be delivered, a call that purportedly irked the Lawmaker into slapping the driver.
The driver’s phone was then smashed, with his clothes torn to shreds.
The Lawmaker went on to threaten to lock up the driver.
