Revealed: How SARS detained intending groom on the eve of his wedding

A groom simply identified as Samuel (surname withheld), who couldn’t get married on the scheduled date of his wedding, has narrated how operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS held him in custody until his wedding night.

Samuel was scheduled to marry his bride on Saturday, 2nd of December, 2017, but had his scheduled wedding cancelled as he couldn’t get released before the set-date.

Narrating how the incident happened, Samuel told Newsroom how he was lured on phone to a bus-stop where he got arrested.

“I got a call from a caller in disguise of a client who needed me to render my engineering service, because I repair generators.” Samuel continued, “We set an appointment to meet at the bus-stop in my area, unknowing to me, I have been under watch and that’s how I met my Waterloo.”

According to Samuel, he was asked to raise up his hand at the bus-stop for identification because he has not seen his caller before. “I went to the bus-stop with a friend of mine and on getting there, they started maltreating us. My friend was apparently threw off the van transporting us when he kept lamenting verbally.” He added.

Samuel further revealed that, the operatives took him all the way from his residence in the Ifo area of Ogun State to their Ikeja office in Lagos with his motorcycle.

When asked how the operatives got his number in the first place, Samuel stressed that they (SARS) said his number was gotten from a robbery-suspect’s phone.

After investigations proofed Samuel has nothing to do with the theft allegations directed at him, he was granted a bail of N76,000. “After finding out that I had nothing to do with the supposed allegations, they collected N76,000 as initial payment to bail me,” Samuel stressed, “Because they had my motorcycle in the station as well, they collected additional fees to hand it over to me.”

He added that when he was given the motorcycle, they asked him not to answer anybody on his way. Samuel said, “I was shocked even when they released my motorcycle, they asked me to be speeding home with no response to whoever stop me on the way.”
