Residents in shock as suspected cable thief is electrocuted in Edo
A suspected cable thief, identified as one Omoivie, was found lying lifeless near some mini transformers on Thursday morning in Edo state.
Omoivie was believed to have been electrocuted to death in an attempt to steal electric cables at midnight.
His body, with a plier by its side, was found by residents of Faith Street, off Owena road, in Oredo Local Government Area of the state.
Some residents said Omoivie, the eldest son of his family, was a serial cable thief.
He was said to have been recently released from prison for the same offence before his untimely death.
“We always bought cables for our transformers and they were stolen in this area,” a landlord in the area, Okhuorabo Isaac, said.
“There was electricity when the incident happened. The boy was killed because of induction of the wires,” another resident, Ovamwanta, said.
