WATCH: Residents of Lagos community besiege EDC office over crazy electricity bill
Residents of a community in the Gbagada area of Lagos stormed their area’s Electricity Distribution Company office to complain about crazy electricity bills being delivered to their homes on Thursday.
A resident confirmed to Newsroom that they received SMS asking them to lodge their complaints, but they were not attended to as the crowd overwhelmed the officials.
“They sent sms to customers to listen to their complaints, but it was not organised. You can see the crowd,” the resident, Austin, told us.
Many Nigerians are victims of the Electricity Distribution Company’s estimated billing, as many households remain without prepaid meters.
One resident in the Opebi area of Lagos told us he was billed N28,000 for the month of May, despite not having too many power-consuming appliances in his home.
