Professor to be fired for saying Christians and Muslims worship same God
Authorities of Weathon College have begun the process of terminating an associate professor who said Christians and Muslims worship the same God.
Associate Professor Larycia Hawkins, on December 10, 2015, posted a picture of herself donning a hijab on her Facebook page and wrote that Christians and Muslims worship the same God.
She said she was donning the hijab to show solidarity with Muslim women who have experienced “unconstitutional and Islamophobic” attacks.
Authorities of the college say her statement on Facebook contradicts the statement of faith which faculty members and students of the college are required to sign.
The statement of faith is in line with the college’s Protestant evangelical tenets.
The College has placed Hawkins on paid administrative leave since December 15, to “give more time to explore significant questions regarding the theological implications of her recent public statements”.
College Provost, Stanton Jones, January 4, 2016, submitted a recommendation to initial termination-for-cause proceedings regarding Hawkins.
So far, Dozens of students have protested the schools move to terminate the associate professor.
It is believed that further actions are being planned throughout this week to protest the administration’s actions, Aljazeera reports..
