President of Libyan Football Federation, Al-Shalmani Resigns

The President of the Libyan Football Federation, Abdelhakim Al-Shalmani, has announced he is resigning from office.

This was made known by Tripoli-based, The Libya Observer, in a post on their website on Monday.

Al-Shalmani is said to have made the announcement when the federation held it general assembly.

He explained that he did not want to be a party to the federation’s “failure.”

“I do not want to be part of the failure in Libyan sports,” Al-Shalmani stated.

Al-Shalmani thanked all his well-wishers and members of the Assembly.

“We faced difficulties during the previous period.

“I thank all members of the General Assembly, and I forgive everyone from all segments of the sports sector.

“I have a history in the International, Arab and African Federation, and no one can deny that,” he went on.

Many wonder if his resignation is connected to the present scandal the Libyan Federation is involved in regarding their row with the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

The Libya team, last wekk, lost to their Nigerian counterparts in an AFCON qualifier in Uyo, Nigeria.

The Super Eagles travelled for the return leg in Tripoli, but, have been badly treated by their hosts so far, with players left stranded in the airport.

Officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) say the team’s flight was diverted and the players left without food or Wi-Fi for 13 straight hours.

Presently, the Nigerian contingent are in advanced moves to get their players out of the country, with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) asked to wade into the scandal.
