President Buhari receives Nigerian female basketball team, promises each player N1m
President Muhammadu Buhari received the Nigerian women’s national basketBall team at the State House in Abuja today.
D’Tigress met with the president shortly before the Federal Executive Council Meeting having won the 2017 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament in Mali.
Buhari was happy to receive the team, saying the nation is proud of their exploits.
“I was pleased to receive our female National Basketball Team, D’Tigress, at the State House today. They have done so much to make us proud.”
Buhari also promised each player N1m while team officials were promised N500,000 each.
The team achieved the feat in style by beating defending champions, Senegal, 65-48 in the final match.
As a result, the win earned Nigeria a ticket to the 2018 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Spain.
It was the country’s third title in the competition.
