Ikosi-Ketu: “Prepaid electric meter, harmattan caused Jakande plank market fire” – trader

Harmattan, it seems, didn’t return to Lagos without its accompanying higher risk of fire disaster.
The dry, cold weather helped fan the flames that destroyed properties worth millions at Jakande plank market in Ikos-Ketu area of the state.
The fire reportedly started around 4:00 a.m. on Thursday after a prepaid electric meter sparked. The little fire from the spark then lashed unto the wooden base on which the meter was mounted.
“The harmattan weather helped the fire spread,” a trader said. The rest is ash. But there’s no report of loss of human life.

The ensuing inferno destroyed vehicles, planks and buildings before fire fighters were able to put it out.
There were incessant fire incidents in Lagos at the height of the harmattan last December.
The harmattan, which faded with the festive season, returned on Monday.
Let’s be cautious. Harmattan is pro-fire..
