Premier League: Chelsea face tough test at Leicester as Aston Villa welcome Tottenham

As Round 18 of the 2020-21 Premier League season returns this week, with 10 matches scheduled for January 12-21, 2021, football fans can look forward to thrilling action from the most popular football league in the world.

The top pick of fixtures from the Premier League for this midweek round is the meeting of Leicester City and Chelsea at the King Power Stadium. While the Foxes are enjoying a solid season, the Blues can be considered title contenders and will need to secure three points from their trip to the Midlands.

Despite their strong form this season, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has talked down the prospect of winning the Premier League title: “My job and our job is to know that it’s a long season and the next question is how consistent can we be with this form, how much we can improve, because I believe there is a lot more we can do and there will be a lot of challenges ahead.”

Leicester, meanwhile, have often looked better away from home this season but manager Brendan Rodgers is backing his team to put up a fearsome effort against Chelsea in a match that promises great football.

“We know this team is capable of top-class performances and coming up against the leading clubs is a great motivation. We have our own ambitions for the season, but it’s about keeping our heads down, working hard and we’ll see where we stand [on the log table] when the season is nearly over,” explained the Foxes’ boss.

Elsewhere in the Premier League this midweek, Arsenal host Crystal Palace for a London derby, while Aston Villa will look to upset Tottenham Hotspur at home – with all eyes on midfielder Jack Grealish, who was close to a move to the North London side a couple of seasons back – and Manchester United will look to keep up their impressive away record with a win at Craven Cottage against Fulham.

Champions Liverpool will back themselves to beat Burnley at home, as will Manchester City against Brighton & Hove Albion, while the meeting of Leeds United and Southampton should provide a fascinating clash of styles at Elland Road.
