Pregnant woman dies after hospital couldn’t fuel ambulance
This unfortunate incident happened in Malawi.
The 24-year-old woman had developed ruptured uterus at Mponela Rural Hospital in Malawi.
Officials of the health centre then informed their counterparts at Dowa District Hospital of the need to transfer the pregnant woman to the district hospital for surgery, local newspaper, Nyasa Times reports.
But the district hospital could not send an ambulance because the vehicle had no fuel.
Now she is dead.
District Health Officer for the district, Beatrice Chikaphonya confirmed the report but offered little comments.
She only said the ambulances would be fuelled as the government has just released funds for the hospital.
Had the pregnant woman undergone the surgery, she wouldn’t have died, the health centre officials are quoted to have said..
