Policeman killed by gunmen while escorting campaign results in Ogun
A group of unknown gunmen who laid ambush in wait of a vehicle conveying election results from Ipokia to Ilaro collation centre in Ogun state have reportedly shot dead a Police corporal escorting the dispatch.
The officer identified as Sunday Idoko met the unfortunate fate on Sunday night around 8 pm within Eredo in Yewa south area of the state, when the gunmen abruptly ran out of hiding and started shooting incessantly at the vehicle.
The result that were being conveyed during the attack are said to be that of the House of Representatives for Ipokia/Yewa South Federal Constituency.
Confirming the incident, the Police spokesperson in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said that the state Commissioner of police, Ahmed Iliyasu has ordered the commencement of a thorough investigation on the issue.
He further confirmed that the police is currently tracking down the perpetrators of the act and will promptly bring them to justice.
