Enugu police rescue Mikel Obi’s father after second kidnap attempt

The Enugu State police have rescued Super Eagles team captain Mikel Obi’s father, Pa Micheal Obi from kidnappers.

Pa Obi was, on June 29, kidnapped for the second time along Makurdi-Enugu road on his way back from Jos, and was taken to an unknown destination through the thick forest part of the area.

His abductors had been demanding for N10 million ransom, but police were able to rescue him on Monday, July 2, at about 2:30 pm, after a gun duel with his abductors.

Police spokesperson in the state, Ebere Amaraizu, said police operatives rescued Pa Obi and his driver, one Ishaya John, unhurt in Egede axis of Udi Forest of Enugu State along Old Egede Affa road in the state.

Ebere Amaraizu also revealed that the operatives also recovered Pa Obi’s Toyota Prado jeep.

“In the process of the rescue, a gun duel ensued between police operatives and the kidnappers which forced the hoodlums to abandon their victims inside the forest and they were promptly rescued,” Amaraizu said.

Pa Obi was quoted as saying after his rescue: “I am happy with the police operatives’ performance. I am alive and healthy. I thank the commissioner of police and the police operatives for their efforts which led to our rescue.”
